Lagaan is a neat story about how a small sleepy village somewhere in India began to assert itself against the mighty British Empire during the Victorian Era, just around the time it was starting to show its age. The chosen battlefield upon which the uneven tempers of the local villagers clashed with the smugly casual nonchalance of the Empire was a polite (or impolite, depending on which side you take) game of cricket.
