This is a snippet of an email I sent to a female acquaintance and quite possibly a friend:
__________________________________
Initially, I found your openness to be a breath of fresh air; I was
literally smiling after reading your first letter. I've often told my
sister that the strength of a women isn't so much in how well she can
prove her forcefulness, it's in how soft she can make her voice; just
like a gentle tongue that turns away wrath (Prov. 15:1), or one that can
break a bone (Pr...

Black women are beautiful. I think us, black men, have taken you all for granted. More precisely, we've taken each other for granted. Of course, this isn't all by accident; that is to say, we are sorta pitted against each other - but I'll leave the theorizing for later.
Every now and then, it's a good idea to laugh @ourselves. There is some kernel of truth in the following clip, but I thought it was mostly hilarious. Maybe you will too.
On our way home from Borders (A Local Bookstore) some nearly two years ago, my then-adolescent sister and I engaged an interesting conversation. I noted another teenager walking along the same path with his friends. "Look at this cat,"I mentioned with feigned disapproval,"he doesn't look like much does he?" His jeans were sagging with boxers showing. She agreed with casual disregard. "However," I said sounding conspiratorial with eye brows furrowed attempting to draw more of her interest,"wha...

This video is for all those chumps who heartily embrace black rappers that spurn their own black people. Why listen to them at all!? Those cowards and their lyrics have nothing to offer the people but self-hate, lasciviousness, and more violence. Maybe they should all get Lynched!

I can recall a few times as a preteen listening and then laughing at the horrendous jokes told by the rest of us in the direction of newbie Haitian kids. Sure, I felt some guilt but many times I was just trying to stay out of the limelight myself; having returned from the continent of Africa, I too, had been the butt of similar jokes. Such is the nature of prepubescent kids. Quite frankly, I believe that to a certain extent, this sort of tussle is not only inevitable but essential for the hea...
In a church I no longer attend, one the preachers use to encourage us to read the news everyday. He said once,"How can you help save a world you know nothing about?" He's no longer there, unfortunately, but the lesson for me was reinforced nevertheless. In the 80's & 90's, most of us grew up with parents who were somewhat cognizant of the real issues at hand surrounding their communities and the globe at large. Today's news is racked with so much frivolity and entertainment that the general ...
Jess, I notice that some of your friends have said some pretty outrageous things. No one is perfect obviously and we all have quirks, but some of these things cannot be explained away so easily. They should begin to make you doubt them or at least question their motives. You may have to eliminate some of these characters from your facebook account...
Propaganda, under the guise of popular media has made the idea of looking at another black person (especially someone of the opposite sex) without some degree of mistrust or apprehension, wholly inconceivable to the average black person. The movies that come out of Hollywood portraying our people as shysters, cooning-clowns, or the trusty side-kick confidant cannot be numbered. For example: We've all become accustomed to seeing on-screen white romance go through the typical ups & downs of an...

This one is dedicated to all the beautiful black sistahs out there who won't give up on us (the brothas) despite the odds. We all know that there are no easy answers to the collective problems that beset us, but continue to believe in yourselves and your people, it'll be alright! The following words are from this song:
You understand that I'm a real black man (I'll do the) best that I can, in constant demand (and ah) utriculated, my emotions so syncopated You gravitatin' cuz my pull is so unde...

I love this song. It is a well put together piece which sketches out only a few reasons why Christianity and perhaps other major religions are losing their flock. Though many blacks are of this religion, it is truly disconcerting to find so few that are capable of explaining their belief system with even a modest level of competency - And I am speaking of those who've been in the 'faith' for some time. If you have sensitive ears turn away. For me, it is always refreshing to see one of our own...

...not yet! (if ever) There are many black people who believe themselves better off just because Obama's in office. However, statistical information proves otherwise. "Obama, shouldn't do anything special for blacks because that would be favoritism," says many blacks. What a travesty? Obama really doesn't do much of anything for blacks, but he'll go out of his way for Jews, for the gays & lesbians, and for the Immigrants (of Spanish descent). The black bourgeoisie says,"Hey, that's not true...

21The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself."
22
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the
LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath
23 that I will accept
nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so
that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.' 24
I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that
belongs to the men who went with ...

Comic, Dave Chapelle, shares a piece of his mind regarding the pervasive sicknesses
of the Hollywood Machine and the endless calls for black men to the
casting-couch, which ultimately drove him away.

This first blog is heartily dedicated to you Jess. Of our great family, you are most like me. Maybe, cuz you sat still long enough to listen. Now that you've ascended into the heavenly realms of the collegiate experience as a bonafide ivy-leaguer <a claim even I can't boast> you will undoubtedly gain new perspective. Surrounded by an infinite sea of ambitious young minds with more questions than hubris(hopefully), you will start to become what you will become. Realize: that some of these...
