#13 Alright by Ny Oil

Posted by Tarus on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, In : Brothas & Sistahs

This one is dedicated to all the beautiful black sistahs out there who won't give up on us (the brothas) despite the odds. We all know that there are no easy answers to the collective problems that beset us, but continue to believe in yourselves and your people, it'll be alright!  The following words are from this song:

You understand that I'm a real black man (I'll do the)
best that I can, in constant demand (and ah)
utriculated, my emotions so syncopated
You gravitatin' cuz my pull is so unde...

#12 Their Dream (Act), Our Worst Nightmare

Posted by Tarus on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, In : Clash of Cultures

Throughout history, immigrants have always been used to check the natural tendencies of a republic by an elite class of ruthless individuals who are incorrigibly hellbent on imposing their will on the unsuspecting populace by sleight-of-hand. Their inclusion, more often than not, provides easy leverage against homegrown citizens (mostly middle class)  whose collective influence on the political system has conceivably became a potentially significant threat to the ruling establishment;  two co...

#11 Extian

Posted by Tarus on Monday, September 27, 2010, In : Brothas & Sistahs

I love this song. It is a well put together piece which sketches out only a few reasons why Christianity and perhaps other major religions are losing their flock. Though many blacks are of this religion, it is truly disconcerting to find so few that are capable of explaining their belief system with even a modest level of competency - And I am speaking of those who've been in the 'faith' for some time. If you have sensitive ears turn away. For me, it is always refreshing to see one of our own...

#10 Barefoot Economics Part 1/2

Posted by Tarus on Friday, September 24, 2010, In : Did you know...?
The Chilean economist, Manfred Max - Neef, defines the present-day economic situation in a very interesting and illuminating way. Bare-Foot Economics is his evolutionary process to how a typical grade-A economist comes to know and understand life on its terms...as it really is vs the bulleted powerpoint presentations of some executive boardroom meeting.

#9 Tired of defending Obama?

Posted by Tarus on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, In : Book & Movie Reviews

...well, this sistah is. I could say more but I won't. After watching this short clip you can search or google his confounding response...but only if you still have a bit more room in your tummy for bullsh!t.

#8 PowerPoints For Hollow Men

Posted by Lamont Cranston on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, In : Book & Movie Reviews

The Revolution will not come by PowerPoint. It will not begin at a workshop in one of a thousand hotels where bored delegates pin badges to their lapels and practice civil-society speak. PowerPoint is a power grab. there millions of slides may create as much poverty, insecurity and befuddlement as any militia or dictator. PowerPoint poses as dry objectivity in the face of corrupt violent politics, but it cleaves apart the political from the economic. By a curious alchemy, human life on the Po...

#7 Cult of Personality by Living Colour (1988)

Posted by Tarus on Monday, September 20, 2010, In : Best Music Reviews...

There certain aspects about a song like this that resonate so strongly even today. Two of the most notable are as follows: It was sung by a black rock band - and regardless of what forward-looking whites or high-minded blacks  would like you  to believe, such a fact still bears mentioning; second, there was thoughtful purpose behind the words of Cory Glover (lead singer) ...especially these:

Only YOU, can set YOU Free!

...free from all the dictates of mind-numbing Hollywoodism thinly veiled by...

#6...a politically mature black bourgeoisie?

Posted by Lamont Cranston on Friday, September 17, 2010, In : Brothas & Sistahs

...not yet! (if ever) There are many black people who believe themselves better off just because Obama's in office. However, statistical information proves otherwise. "Obama, shouldn't do anything special for blacks because that would  be favoritism," says many blacks. What a travesty? Obama really doesn't do much of anything for blacks, but he'll go out of his way for Jews, for the gays & lesbians, and for the Immigrants (of Spanish descent).  The black bourgeoisie says,"Hey, that's not true...

#5 The Word - Ghetto

Posted by Tarus on Thursday, September 16, 2010, In : Did you know...?
Did you know that blacks were NOT the first to reside in what's commonly referred to as ...Ghettos?

Originally, the word was used to refer to the poor living spaces set aside for Jews throughout western nations, especially in Russia. It is widely believed that the word itself is a derivative of a word in Venetian vernacular, ghetor or ghet, which means slag - an unwanted byproduct of smelting ore for valuable minerals; supposedly, there was a foundary off one of the islands of Venice in which...

#4 Accept nothing from such people

Posted by Tarus on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, In : Brothas & Sistahs
21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself."

22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, 'I made Abram rich.' 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with ...

#3 Dave Chapelle, The Last Man Standing

Posted by Tarus on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, In : Brothas & Sistahs

Comic, Dave Chapelle, shares a piece of his mind regarding the pervasive sicknesses of the Hollywood Machine and the endless calls for black men to the casting-couch, which ultimately drove him away.

#2 Kyrie by Mr. Mister (1986)

Posted by Tarus on Monday, September 13, 2010, In : Best Music Reviews...

This song Kyrie, κύριος (kyrios) in Greek, means Oh Lord.  So, when lead singer Richard Page sings,"Kýrie, eléison" - which you can just barely make out - he is saying,"Oh Lord, have mercy..."
[Etymology of Kyrie, Click Here]

It's a beautiful song with an invigorating sense of fearlessness.

#1 We are the Revolutionaries

Posted by Tarus on Saturday, September 11, 2010, In : Brothas & Sistahs

This first blog
is heartily dedicated to you Jess. Of our great family, you are most like me.  Maybe, cuz you sat still long enough to listen. Now that you've ascended into the heavenly realms of the collegiate experience as a bonafide ivy-leaguer  <a claim even I can't boast> you will undoubtedly gain new perspective.  Surrounded by an infinite sea of ambitious young minds
with more questions than hubris (hopefully), you will start to become what you will become.  Realize: that some of these...
