Modern day blacks becoming slaves again an inch at a time Part I
December 8, 2009I am not surprised by all that has befallen us...thus far. Trust me when I mention this: The worst is yet to come. No, I do not bespeak the advent of Christ or that of some apocalyptic gran finale. I speak of the eventual hollowing-out of black America such that we here, will become like our brothers and sisters in other developed/semi-developed nations - if not worse. In Florida, if you desire some kind of outlook as to where we might be as a community in the next few years, all you need do is review the living conditions of our African brothers in Latin America.
Strangely enough, too many of us STILL DON'T GET IT! Instead, we believe without rhyme or reason that God will somehow fix everything because trusty preachers and their sycophant underlings say so. You forget that it wasn't divine intervention that lit the torch of the Civil Rights Movement, but a women who defiantly said,"No More, I will sit where I please!" And even then, the system did not submit to human decency. The Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 lasted till just over a year before the whites of Alabama decided to grow a conscious - and this only because their pocket books were hurting, not because they became enlightened or caught on to the fact that we too are humans! Many of you would sooner forget those times, than imagine that they could be here again in an even more aggressive and pernicious form...believe me, I understand. But what you must understand is that God won't do for man, what man must do for himself! He might actually force you into a corner. According to the Christian faith, God will in fact occasion for conflict that people are then forced to band together and fight their way through insurmountable odds:
But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me. She's the right one for me." (His parents did not know that this was from the Lord, who was seeking an occasion to confront the Philistines; for at that time they were ruling over Israel.) - Judges 14:3b
Sad truth is that many of you reading this here now will rely too much on your money and college degrees, thinking they will insulate you from what's coming. And for a time, it will, but at a great cost. Already, the cut-backs and concessions you are politely being asked to make in order to put off the inevitable continue despite all you've given; some of our older ones are being forced into early retirement. They make us jump through hoops at the expense of our pride and dignity yet still, we do nothing save grin & bear it. For younger black job applicants fresh out of college, there is an implicit understanding that one must deny one's own blackness.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is how it starts: The self-marginalization into relative insignificance and ultimately...oblivion. Consider reading the two articles below regarding how black professionals are "whitening their resumes". What a disgusting revelation! You think any of this will generate pity for them or us? My guess is that they still won't get hired. The only real solution is to come together and start doing for ourselves before we are all out of options. The black professionals should've been at the vanguard of this new movement long ago, but they were too busy leaving the hood instead of transforming it. With not even their precious advanced degrees as a viable recourse, they must either shamelessly sell-out even more than before or humbly make their way back to the black mass of poor and indigent people they thought they'd never see again and forge a new understanding.
Apparently, many of them do not wish to take the high road and make peace with their less fortunate brothers. The cost of being humble before us is still much higher than subjecting themselves to even more humiliation. But don't take my word for it, read the articles and see for yourselves. What happens now when those who should've been leaders prefer instead to be niggardly? Stay tuned for PART II
