The audio clip below is still a timely one. Malcolm X starts out with getting us to put aside petty religious differences and focus on perhaps more immediate & pressing concerns like community reorganization to promote more of a black nationalistic framework upon which to build. He also expounds on becoming politically mature, which is absolutely essential if we are to break out of this ping-pong state between the two parties who only end up taking us for granted anyway.
As blacks we are still too easily given to symbols...symbols of little or no substance, that is to say that we always tend to settle for nominal gains or tokenism: One black man becomes president and suddenly we can trust the executive & legislative branches!? Prevailing currents suggest that this economy will take quite some time to repair given the eight long years of ineptitude in the previous administration, though not very many of you can even site what critical decisions Obama has made thus far, his mounting lies, his betrayal of the UAW (United Auto Workers) which leveraged their considerable influence to get him in office. And so if this is the case I ask you: How are you any different than the racist red neck in Davie that voted for Bush because he was a No Nonsense gun-totin' white Conservative oil man from Texas with a cowboy swagger?
How do I make this point concrete enough? OK. Say I own two prize fighters, like Don King, then it doesn't matter who wins you see. Because at the end of the day, all the winnings come home to me. Hell, even the fighters know who's going to win. Do you wanna know who's really being played? The people, the audience, the spectators, i.e. the voters! The powers that be are much like Don King. They give you the illusion of choice since they own both fighters. If they wish to steer the majority vote in favor of a particular candidate i.e. contender, they simply leverage the greater weight of negative publicity into court of his opponent.
